I’ll be honest. I’ve been getting WAY into all things #woo recently. And this includes diving into the law of attraction, manifestation and limiting beliefs. This has had a big impact on my thought process and the way I’ve been living my life. Both personally and professionally. I’ve been able to hone in on what I really want and start shifting my mindset to get me there.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with limiting beliefs, the basic idea is that you need to unlearn what’s untrue.
Limiting beliefs are often things we don’t realize are an issue until we dive a little deeper. They are very powerful and come up almost automatically when something triggers them. Similar to a defense mechanism. The problem is that these limiting beliefs often get in the way of us manifesting our dreams and can cause problems with business growth.
In this post, I’m going to share 3 of my limiting beliefs (I have more) and how I’m working to overcome them. I want to share this process with you, instead of writing about it at the end once I’ve worked things out.
Why? Because we’re all constantly changing and questioning ourselves. People tend to avoid sharing the entire process because it’s messy. It’s not perfect. But, that’s exactly why I WANT to share it.
A little disclaimer: I’m not an expert in the law of attraction or limiting beliefs. I’m a brand and website designer who is on a journey to conquering my own limiting beliefs and this is my story. I hope that by sharing it with you, you’ll discover why limiting beliefs might be holding you back from business growth.
Ok, well I am an introvert. The problem is that I tend to use this phrase as a limiting belief. I’ll say things to myself like…
These all stem from the same limiting belief that because I’m an introvert, marketing is hard for me.
This limiting belief stops me from putting myself out there in my marketing, my email list, my blog and connecting with other entrepreneurs. Even though this is something I truly desire. It gives me an excuse to not show up consistently or wholeheartedly.
Another one of my limiting beliefs is centered around seeking the approval of others and trying to please everyone.
But in reality, it’s impossible to please everyone and a much better idea to just be yourself. That’s how you really connect with people and build your own unique tribe. People can’t get close to you unless you show up as your true self.
To attract opportunities and manifest your dreams you need to be clear on what you really want so you don’t seek out approval from everyone anyone.
I should probably do a separate blog post on money blocks because I have so much to say here. This is a huge limiting belief for me and many other people.
Your thoughts about money usually come from things you were taught when you were growing up. But, they can also come from your current situation or a time where you struggled financially.
One of my money blocks is that I don’t deserve to charge a premium price for my services. I tend to undercharge and overdeliver. And, this is mainly because I love what I do, so I feel guilty charging for my work.
This usually leads to taking on too many projects at once, and working like crazy, to make the income I desire. Or, it means backing off the work and making less income than I desire.
I’m still working to find that sweet spot and have been really thinking about how I can offer even more unique value to my design packages to provide a premium service. Because I’ve realized that what I really enjoy, is building that connection with my clients and delivering a powerful design with a delightful process.
Your thoughts about money could range from feeling guilty about it, feeling uncomfortable about it, or just feeling like it will always be unattainable for you. These are all examples of money blocks.
At the end of the day…Money is just an exchange of energy. It’s not something we need to feel guilty about wanting. It allows someone to show that they value you and what you offer. It allows you to put your energy into serving other people in a way that brings you joy.
As I said at the start of this post, I’m still working through my limiting beliefs. But the first step is recognizing when a limiting belief comes up in your day-to-day life and fixing your mindset at that moment.
For example, let’s say you tell yourself something like “No one will ever pay me for doing XYZ.” You can fix that statement by realizing that this stems from a limiting belief/money block and, therefore, isn’t true. Then fix the statement to say “People will pay me because I’m doing what I love and offer tons of value for XYZ.”
Journaling has really helped me work through my limiting beliefs. When one pops up during the day, I’ll take note of it and jot it down in my journal. When I have a little free time I’ll come back to that belief and start writing all of my thoughts about where it comes from.
Then, I let it go by realizing it’s not true. I’ll write down affirmations that I can tell myself to shift my mindset. When the limiting belief comes up again, I’m ready with a positive statement that I can tell myself. This isn’t an overnight fix and is something you’ll need to keep working on. But, it’s worth it!
I realize that this all might sound a little out there to some of the people reading it. But practicing journaling, daily affirmations, and working on my limiting beliefs is making a big impact on my mindset. I’m getting really clear on what I want for my business and my personal life.
If you think limiting beliefs are holding you back from business growth then take a little time to journal this evening. Or, really anytime you have a couple of free minutes. What beliefs are holding you back from growing your business? How do you feel about money? What affirmations and mindset shifts can you make to start fixing these beliefs?
And that’s it for today! I don’t have a fancy opt-in for you at the end of this post. This is just me, sharing something I’ve been working on and being honest with you.
I’d love if you shared something in the comments that you’re struggling with. Let’s get the conversation going and start working through our limiting beliefs.
I'll show you how to streamline, connect with your niche, and earn more money from your website.
