One of the most important things that you can do, for your business, is to start getting people on your email list. Why? Because, unlike social media, you are in full control of your list. Social media changes at the drop of a hat.
Take Facebook for example. 4-5 years ago, businesses were getting great results from their business pages. They were able to take advantage of free marketing and get tons of new clients. But now, you pretty much have to pay to play on Facebook. And, Instagram is in the midst of changing, right now, with their new algorithm. But, email marketing has stayed pretty much the same since it came into being. In fact, it’s gotten better with the addition of automation and A/B testing.
However, getting people to opt-in to your list is the struggle that most people have with email marketing. My suggestion is to give something away for free in exchange for someone’s email address. Luckily, if you’re using WordPress it’s not that hard to start doing this! Keep reading for my top 5 WordPress plugins that you can add to your website to start converting website visitors into email subscribers.
Bloom is an easy to use email opt-in plugin for WordPress. With Bloom, you can easily add opt-in forms to your site and can even customize the design and location of each one. Plus, it integrates with many of the most popular email marketing services.
I use Bloom, on my own website, for all of my email opt-in forms. This includes on-click pop-ups (I hate ones that pop-up automatically) and opt-in forms on some of my blog posts. You can use Bloom to create opt-in forms for the widget area, pop-ups, or embed forms that can be placed anywhere on your site.
You can even require an opt-in to unlock content. So, you can simply use Bloom to capture a subscribers email address and then they can download their freebie content, immediately, on our site. Meaning, that you don’t have to set-up an automated email that delivers the freebie. This is really handy for blog posts and other opt-in’s that you might not want to set-up an entire automation sequence for.
PopupAlly is an alternative to Bloom that also handles email opt-in forms. The good news is that they have a free and premium version of the plugin available. PopupAlly is an easy-to-use WordPress opt-in plugin that allows you to grow your list without the technical background.
Basically, it allows you create more polite pop-ups so that your users don’t find them annoying and actually subscribe to your list. The plugin specializes in pop-ups that appear when a user is about to leave your site, when they scroll down to a certain spot on the page, or with an on-click popup.
You can also embed opt-in forms on your blog posts or into the widget area, with the premium version. PopupAlly allows you to set-up A/B testing. Which is amazing, if you want to try out different things and find out what converts!
If you want to create a quiz, with an opt-in incentive at the end, then Thrive Quiz Builder, is the best option. The plugin will help you easily create beautiful and complex quizzes to engage and grab the attention of your website visitors. All, without needing to know how to code or use Photoshop.
Creating quizzes is a really fun way, to get more people to join your list! This quiz builder comes with 3 quiz types – a number based, percentage based and personality based option. You’ll also get powerful analytics, quiz templates, and a badge editor page.
Quizzes definitely take a little more effort to put together, than a simple freebie. But, they are the perfect opt-in if you want to create something that is targeted and customized to the person filling out the quiz.
That’s right, you can actually start capturing email subscribers before you even have your website up. With SeedProd you can create simple opt-in forms for users to sign-up for your list with ease. Perfect if your website is undergoing maintenance or you’re getting a completely new look.
Once you download and activate the plugin in WordPress, you’ll be able to create a landing page using a real-time page builder. You can customize the design of the Coming Soon page or choose a theme to start with. The best part is that you can collect email leads and set-up social sharing. That way, people can get on your list before you even launch your website.
This is personally, a favorite of mine, for my clients who want something up quick while I work on their website.
I know, I know. Another Thrive based plugin. But, they really do have some powerful plugins. Thrive Architect, allows you to create engaging and lovely landing pages right in WordPress. It’s a visual page builder that is built from the ground up for business and conversion-focused websites.
The best part is, that once you download this plugin, you don’t need LeadPages -or something similar- anymore. This means that you can say goodbye to expensive monthly plans.
Once you add the plugin to WordPress you can take advantage of their drag-and-drop editor to create stunning landing pages in a flash! They also have pre-built landing page templates that are a great starting point if you aren’t into designing the entire thing yourself.
If you choose to work with a designer, you can have a custom landing page built that ties into your branding and looks amazing! Plus, you can use the design, moving forward, as a template for another landing page. If you’re interested in a custom landing or sales page, I’d love to chat!
So there you have it! 5 of my favorite WordPress plugins to convert website visitors into email subscribers. These are all very effective plugins, that I highly recommend. I use all of them on either my own or on client’s websites.
I realize that most of these are premium based plugins, which come with a fee. But, you’ll actually save a ton of money by choosing premium plugins with a one-time fee, vs. paying a smaller monthly fee for something like LeadPages. Just something to consider as we near the end of the year and you’re going over your business expenses. This is a great time to see which tools and apps are giving you a return on investment and which ones aren’t.
